Hi there, I don't seem to receive the activation link after registration?

Comment #201 by dalton Aug 4, 2021 at 07:19 am  Reply

hi! thanks for such a useful website, I'm happy to see it's still being worked on and would love to contribute myself. I am facing an issue though, on macOS Big Sur I cannot select a platform when using Add Page. I've tried in Firefox and Safari, incognito/private windows as well and do not get any options to the right of "Platform:", it's just blank. If I leave the default platform selection (Windows) then I get an error upon clicking "Next", "Invalid platform for this selection.". I have screenshots and can provide them if needed. I'd prefer not installing Chrome, and would be awesome to have this working in my main browser, Firefox. Thank-you, please let me know how what I can do to start contributing.

Hi! Thank you for the kind words and apologies for the issue with the platforms. Problem is fixed now; not sure how it stopped working in the first place. Please let me know either via email to admin@shortcutworld.com or feedback if you have any questions in the process!

your keyboard shortcuts from OneNote are available as a PDF download?

Comment #199 by techcreators Jun 24, 2021 at 10:27 am  Reply

Excellent Site! Great Organization. The Export Data button for Excel Shortcuts works great but the one for Excel Functions isn't working (tried 3 popular browsers all 3 file formats). Is it possible you can fix the link or email me the excel file of the function list for "List of all Excel Functions with Syntax and Arguments" (possibly with every filter Item Selected). I'd really appreciate it. Thanks a lot in advance.

Such a great site, thanks! I was surprised to see that the [⌘] (Command) sign is supported but that the [⌥] (Option) sign is not supported? The Option sign is printed as "?" in pdfs. Also, surprised that the Command sign is printed as "Command" and not as the sign?

Thanks, JR! I made a few fixes. The ⌥ sign now shows correctly on the Excel for Mac Page. Unfortunately the current PDF creator I am using has some issues with UTF-8 characters which I will fix in the near future. In the meantime, I replaced the ? signs with the text 'option'. Not perfect, but at least usable for now. Thanks again for taking time providing feedback!

I am very glad I found this site (it is very easy to read!) I do have a problem, I tried to download the pdf for shortcuts for Inkscape (win) and the file was empty (it just had the header for this website, but no shortcuts.)

Reply #1 admin Dec 15, 2020 at 11:41 am

Hi - found the issue with the PDF; it was a site-wide problem and is fixed now. Please try again. Sorry about that!

Comment #196 by raysosher Sep 7, 2020 at 02:55 am  Reply

You can use your touch pad to zoom and zoom out easily why are you trying to find a shortcut for that? If you are in pc then do it with the help of your mouse. Just click control and use the wheel to zoom in and zoom out.

Comment #195 by raysosher Sep 7, 2020 at 02:51 am  Reply

I did not know it until I tried it myself. It worked for me, I do not know why it is not working on your system. Try to check whether you have all the drivers or not. Sometimes you miss the hot key driver which is very essential for performing shortcuts. Try it out.

Comment #194 by raysosher Sep 7, 2020 at 02:44 am  Reply

I want to know it too. Like in google drive when I use spreed sheet I press alt H then W to wrap a certain box and I do not have to go through all the trouble to wrap a box. I want this to apply on others too.

Thank you for this website. The format for the PDFs is very good looking and useful. Every time I log in and try to add to my shortcuts I get a message that says:" shortcutworld.com says Could not add to favorites" Am is doing it wrong or is it not working?

Comment #191 by Steven MacDonald Feb 10, 2020 at 03:51 am  Reply

This list is awesome. Would love to see it turned into a little applet that could run over a background, or simply turned into a background itself. Can someone do that or point me towards someone that already has? Would be incredibly useful as a desktop background.

The security gurus keep harping on making passwords as strong as possible, generally suggesting the inclusion of numbers, capitol letters, and SYMBOLS. I am always a bit dismayed when I see no allowance for symbols or a limited sysmbol list, as I automatically include some symbols and I have my favorites.

With so many doing shortcuts yours I enjoy. It's clean and uncluttered. I am always updating my own Excel & OneNote shortcut resources and force myself to stop if I can't remember one in use. I use a utility to share multiple computers screens over my LAN and just figured out how to add shortcuts to switch screen focus without the mouse. I'm thinking about contributing but time is an issue of course. I don't see it on your site so I'll try join up and contribute. Now that I know about you I hope you stick around! Keep up the good work! LOL and I finally added Google Translate to read your site comments.

You need to add WIN +M to minimize the current screen. A lot of the games I play do not have the minimize/maximize symbols in the corner.

Comment #167 by 1offguy Mar 29, 2016 at 10:31 am  Reply

Firstly congratulations on an excellent, highly useful site! What would make it way WAY more useful, would be if, having logged in, the individual user could: A) Visually 'mark up' the individual hotkeys that he/she was planning to learn next. (i.e. with a bright yellow background highlight colour) B) One the individual user had eventually learned each hotkey, he/she could then *dim* the highlight colour (to e.g. a faded/less-bright yellow colour). This would make your site, much MUCH more useful to users. As it would: A) Help them quickly see which new hotkeys they were planning to use and therefore which ones to practise using, and B) Help them quickly find all the hotkeys that they had previously learned and which they had deemed to be important. HEAT MAP ALSO as a bonus you could then build up some sort of "heat map" showing which hotkeys were important to previous visitors. (e.g. using a button of varying shades of say Red colour at the start of each row). This would help users find what are *probably* the most useful and save time. AND the developers of the software in question would also find it very useful to know what features were being used more by their users. REVENUE I also suggest some form of revenue for this site. Maybe users could pay donations, or have some sort of "freemium" deal whereby adverts get removed if they pay something (but it would need to be something extremely small for a site like this. Say $5 /year?). You could also reward users - like me - in some way for making additions to the site...

Comment #146 by admin Mar 12, 2015 at 07:51 am  Reply

The whole point of shortcuts is to be more productive. Software helps us humans accomplishing tasks. (Lets set aside for a moment if the task at hand makes sense or not, point is we have a point of getting it done) Ineffectiveness is waste of human energy. If your target is to create a Worksheet with specific content and outcomes, and it takes you 10 minutes instead of 30 minutes you have a net-gain of 20 minutes. Multiply by tasks, by years you do tasks, by people doing tasks and we have a sizable productivity gain. Too much shortcuts? Law of diminishing returns. At a certain point, the time you spend learning shortcuts may not give you any net-gain. But consider a shortcut learned will stick with you for a lifetime. I have been using Excel for nearly 20 years and will probably do so for another.

Reply #1 RobWright Feb 13, 2015 at 03:58 pm

Try this: =LOWERCASE(B2) The B2 is the cell reference that you wish to convert to lowercase. As far as I know, there's no way to do this "in place", so you'll need to perform this action, then copy the resulting VALUES back to the original location. Rob

Great website, clean-looking and objective! I was reading the shortcuts for chrome and copying and pasting the ones I didn't know and would like to have it handy to practice, and it took me some time. It'd be good if each shortcut item could be added to a floating notepad by just clicking on it. Then it could be exported to sticky notes or just copied. This would work well for this website.

Thank you so much for putting all these KSCs in a compact pdf format for our use. Trying to build this from what is available on MS website and many others that offer 'great KSCs in Win 7" and leave us...going to their website to look them up because they're completely unprintable...has been an utter waste of my time.

YOU are Absolutely a most responsible member of the web community. My kudos to you!

Just more accolades! Thanks.
BTW I searched MS "help" tool first. What a misnomer, not help, not a tool either! It makes one wonder. MS seems to be trying to wean its users from many of the former useful tools by obscuring the tools and the info about them - in general.
This is great, simple clean and effective.

This site is wonderful. You can access quickly the reference you are seeking. It allows you to one click to convert to pdf, or print. You don't need to create an account to look up shortcuts, and no hoops to jump through messing with advertising. I highly recommend this site for anyone who is seeking shortcuts to any OS or application/software.

I have downloaded tons of shortcuts from the internet. Yours is by far, the most efficient, easy to read shortcut lists of all time. I'm putting all other shortcuts in the trash and relying totally on your information. Thanks for taking the time to create. I'm sure it is a major undertaking. Much appreciated!

Reply #1 r1ckr011 Sep 4, 2013 at 11:02 pm

Don't throw them away! Make a master list, full of every possible shortcut--he may yet not have all of them!

Oh, and as mobile platforms develop and newer projects like Raspberry Pi, custom ARM Architectures, custom ROMs, hell... even Video Game Console shortcuts :P --all these things will need to be included eventually :)

That's not even talking about possible custom shortcuts development for individual people on their boxes. Which may or may not someday be packaged as something you might download, say on CNET!

Excellent potential. I hope to all that is holy that you will get the resources you need to finish this project :D

Very nice helpful site. I was looking at the windows shortcut list which is very good on screen. However transfering to paper for reference while trying to remember the shortcuts dosen't look organised. It would be very useful if a printable version laid out for A4 with if possible each group per sheet. This would make finding the appropriate group list so much easier and more efficient to use. Thanks for your time and effort.

Thanks, great site but I'm a newbie to shortcuts and don;t know how to interpret the instructions whenever there are multiple keys. For example "⌃+w" to close the document. Exactly what keys do I press? Clearly not Shift+6+w (which is how I would expect to get a ^ and a w together). Can you add clear instructions at the top of the site for people who don't understand even the basics of short cuts? Thank you, Richard

I like the site and hope to use it regularly but first time out I hit a bug. Hope you can clarify. I wanted to undo a strike-through and used ⌃+5. Since ^ relies on shift, it gives me ^ and nothing more. Thanks.

Not sure what problem is, but if that is the Windows Resume you are stuck, it probably is an issue with the Windows Keyboard / Mouse Driver which can't be loaded and keyboard does not work at all. If that is an older PC, try a PS/2 keyboard. Or I think you can press F8 upon loading and try to get to windows restore.

Had to copy what fedl wrote because it was written the way I was thinking: wow, just stumbled upon this site from a Google search. I must say I was impressed by it's simplicity and efficiency. I found more shortcuts than I will ever need. I could not find in Windows XP, in Word the shortcut key Ctrl y, if its there I am sorry but if it isn't its a very useful combination. If you made a change in your text and you want to repeat that change all you do is hit that key and bingo.

Reply #1 scarr Mar 21, 2014 at 08:08 pm

Ctrl-Y is good for repeatedly changing formats, i.e. bold, fonts, etc. - very handy!
in Vim the repeat key is . (dot) I use it all the time

A piece of brilliance! This is an absolutely wonderful site and project. It saves hours of frustration and energy - either working with the mouse or looking for the elusive keyboard shortcut on the so-called "help" facilities. Superb!

Hi Hakapes, Thanks so much for your feedback!! I will make changes probably around next weekend. Sorry you lost your work. Can you send me an email what exactly happened, so that I can fix?

Love the idea of sending new users email with instructions. Actually, the easiest is to edit in Excel or any other spreadsheet and simply copy&paste into the editor.

Any time you save, it is directly published. I am working on a 'draft', that you can save it locally first.

If you want to keep a copy, you can click on 'xml' and copy the raw text out.

Let me know how it goes.

Comment #15 by hakapes Jan 7, 2012 at 02:18 pm  Reply

Hi, fantastic site and project.
I use a lot shortcuts, and added some already.
The idea to make it a wiki, and share this info, and invite for feedback is excellent.
Instead of writing a very long list of positives, I just give some suggestions, that popped up during the short time I used the site.

Some suggestions:
* PDF print: same nice round rectangle around the keys (similar to web page) would be much easier to read.
* Categorizing: some shortcuts are useful, some are exotic. I suggest to add a "Most used" category on the top, with only a few shortcuts.
* User profile: which data can be seen outside? I want my e-mail address hidden. Is it possible to change my user name?
* Favourites: the yellow/gray icon could function the opposite way (like in Firefox - if yellow=added to favourites, gray=not added to favourites)
* I would like an option to highlight interesting shortcuts with a yellow background. See here: http://onlinehelp.mindjet.com/help/MindManager/2012/ENU/keyboard_shortcuts.htm
* Design: this light grean is difficult for my eyes. Can you experiment with some easier to read and more modern graphical design? See the MPC homepage, it's simple, modern, and nice. http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

Keep up the good work!
Oliver

I think this is a great idea, and I'd be happy to contribute during my (not so frequent) free time.

One small concern: I'm having a bit of difficulty re-ordering shortcuts. Some items I can easily grab and drag, others just refuse to move.

Thanks and cheers.

I hear you on the 'free time'. I have been buried in my day-time job for months now. Two remedies for re-arranging: Option 1: When I upload, I compile the shortcuts in Excel first and simply copy&paste the two columns directly in the Editor, category by category. Option 2: You can use the 'XML' button on the top right corner. That switches the editing mode to text-based editing. Here you can move it very easy or even edit it in your own editor and copy back into. Let me know what you think. I am aware that the drag&drop is a little shaky. I am using a JQuery plugin for that and gotta see if there is an update somewhere.

What a great idea. I HATE THE MOUSE. Love shortcuts. Will you be posting tips for creating our own shortcuts? E.g. I came here to see if there was a way to zoom in and out in Word 2010, using keyboard shortucts (apparently not). I bet I can figure out a way but it would be great to be able to just cut and paste some macro code....

I LOVE KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS.
I really like the way you have them categorized on each page. That really helps. I know it took a lot of time planning the pages out, and I appreciate how you've used typewriter keys to help us remember what alphabetical key to use.
SUGGESTIONS: Instead of 'f4', why not 'F4', like the keyboard. Same goes with the other keys: Ctrl, Alt, Esc, etc. The only other suggestion would be to have instructions at the top of each page for those persons that don't know what 'shortcuts' are, and that they must press and hold keys down (in the order given) until all keys are down.

Reply #1 admin Jul 19, 2011 at 08:31 am

@BobbieSue! Thanks so much for the feedback! I agree on putting the first letter capitalized as they are on the keyboard. I found some manual pages in in all upper-case, some other in all lower-case. I opted for all lower case; but thinking about it, it would be much better to have them as they are on the keyboard. I'll put it on my todo list; thanks!

Hi Kazeno, rnrnThat is a neat idea! I can see that as a feature. I had similar thoughts going in the same direction. rnrnSome Shortcuts are obvious (ctrl-s for save) some others are not. I put it on my list. Right now I am consumed on working on the feature to allow an easier editing and uploading of shortcuts, then I am open for anything. I hope I can get on this within 2 months or so.. will keep you posted.rnrnBernd
